Today I wanted to share a little holiday cheer from my home to yours. My daughter and I have not been together to bake holiday cookies in a few years. This year she came over to bake with me. I had a special sugar cookie book that I used for a couple of years prior to her birth and it was with me until around five years ago. I remember loaning it to someone with the understanding they would return it when finished. Needless to say the book was not returned and I can’t remember who borrowed it. Every year I try to guess what was in the recipe but the only thing I remembered for sure was a teaspoon of Valencia orange peel. This year she searched Google and found the exact recipe. We celebrating by making butter cookies with icing.
As you can see by our final product we were successful. My family has always loved these cookies and were sad when I no longer baked them. This year we will surprise them on Christmas Day with a tin of cookies. My other daughter is allergic to gluten and dairy so we made gluten/dairy free cookies. They are delicious.
Happy Holidays!

I’ll have to miss the baking this year, given the present situation it’s not even possible. Haven’t done without the baking in a long long time, oh well, will just do it when things are settled in 2015.

There have been years that I didn’t bake myself but the years that I do are always fun. I still use the same cookie cutters from my first Christmas on my own. Today I was watching home movies of my children, who are now in their late twenties and thirties, cutting out cookies on their little play table. Wishing you a nice holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

I still have and use my mother’s cookie sheets, cookie press, rolling pin, recipes, cookie cutters from when I was a kid and the cookie tins my mother and grandmother used. Lots of family connection and good memories with those long used and loved items. My step-kids are in that age group too with children of their own and all looking forward to Santa visiting. A blessed and bountiful New Year to you and yours. All the best, Aquila

Aquila,
It such fun to hear how others celebrate and remember family connections through baking cookies, recipes, and cookie cutters. Some of my cousins shared memories of cookie cutters and making sugar cookies with my aunts on Facebook. Glad that we all share in some good memories with our families and can share them with the children in our lives.
Wishing you a abundant New Year filled with health, wealth and happiness!!
