Once again I traveled North this week. On my way home Tuesday, there were many beautiful photo shots along the trip. At one point I stopped to take a photo of snow-capped mountains, but the camera didn’t work. It seemed the battery was dead so I opened the battery door to discover that it was empty. That was fine because I placed a battery and charger in my camera bag. After placing the battery inside the camera I discover the battery was dead. It was discouraging, but I had my iPhone and took a couple of photos. When something isn’t working take the time to stop, breath, and flow. Once I reached Lake Placid I stopped for a coffee and plugged in the battery charger. It was almost the half-way point so the stretch was well deserved.
On the way out-of-town, I noticed the flags flapping in the breeze and with snow-covered mountains in the background. As you can see from the photos is was a beautiful clear day with fantastic views.
The temperature was in the high forties. It felt like a heat wave compared to the weeks of below zero and low 10s. I was able to take off my coat and gloves for the first time in months.
When traveling down the mountain, on the way to Keene Valley, I traveled past ponds and lakes to the right. On the left there were ice formations cascading down the mountains in between trees. Once the ice begins to melt there will be a stream of water crossing the road and filling the lakes. In the lower photo you can see the water frozen in time, soon to be flowing freely once again.
It is a beautiful trip and one that I don’t mind traveling, even though it is a four-hour trip after spending the morning training. If ever in New York State take a ride along Route 73 through Keene Valley. If you enjoy hiking, climb one of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks or become one of the ADK46ers. You will be glad you made the trip.
Love and Light,
Sandy

The Adirondacks are beautiful in every season. Have you ever hiked any of the peaks?

I used to go to Raquette Lake as a kid. One year, we canoed up some finger lakes and ended up at Blue Mountain, climbed it and canoed back. It took us 3 days. One year, we climbed West Mountain. I remember riding the rapids somewhere, picking blueberries and mostly the smell of balsam pine, that we used to gather to sleep on. Mmmmmm…..

I have hiked around Blue Mountain, Heart Lake, Mt Marcy and some others. Love kayaking in the lakes especially when there are dragonflies flying around us. Picking wild blueberries years ago an old black bear came meandering out of the woods. That was the end of picking:) We ride the rapids down the Hudson River near North River. Such fun!

I still keep a small balsam pine pillow on my bed. Just inhaling it takes me back there. I have only been twice in my adulthood, but as soon as I got there, I teared up with such joy. It is sacred ground. The memories I feel on a cellular level. The sound of the lapping water, the patterns on the lake, the loons haunting calls, the early morning mists, the eagles catching fish, and yes, the dragonflies. I do so love it there. Thanks for reminding me. It was a hard time for me when I used to go there. My mom died when I was 12, and was very ill the 2 years prior. I did a lot of grieving there. So special in my heart, the Adirondacks.

I love the mixture of textures in the lower photo. It really adds to the feeling of “being there.”
