The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge: “Happy Place”

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Happy Place.”

Finding a photo for this week’s challenge was difficult because there are so many happy places in my life. When my grandchildren are around, everywhere we are is a happy place. Recently I was blessed with a visit from my daughter and grandson from San Diego. They came to share in welcoming my new grandson Colt into the world. We went to visit my son and Tanner enjoyed following him around pulling his stuffed dog, Elroy, by his red ribbon.

I am missing photos of my youngest daughter and granddaughter. Any time spent with my children and grandchildren, no matter the location or activity is a happy place.

Becoming one with nature

         Becoming one with nature

Being in nature brings me to a happy place within. Hugging trees, walking barefoot on the earth, listening to birds, rustling leaves, watching squirrels, chipmunks and birds all provide a happy place.

My back yard is a happy place for myself , family and friends. In the Fall, the tree becomes a beautiful crimson – breathtaking. When I sit in my swing I find myself transported to a happy place where ideas and creativity find me.

Another location that has been a happy place since childhood is my brother-in-law’s camp. Many family members that enjoyed this camp over the years have since died but their memories live on. Whenever I am in the area I stopped by to visit, sometimes bringing a journal, pen, and camera. Stories fill my mind and I can almost see Johnny mowing the yard, Adam walking off with his fishing pole, children running and laughing in the yard, building tee pees, and cooking pine needle soup.

My happy places wouldn’t be complete without one of my decades long favorite locations – Saratoga National Historical Park. A place that I walked with my children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and also by myself. It’s a great place to bring my notebooks and pens to write my thoughts, visit nature and animals, and dream. I visit throughout the year, hiking in the warm months, snow shoeing in the winter.

Living mindfully brings many happy places to life. Hope you enjoyed discovering these wonderful locations. Thank you for visiting and allowing me to share my happy places with you.

  1. Beautiful family. And wow, your backyard is stunning in autumn!! I can easily see how it would inspire you. How much longer til it’s like that again this year?

    • Thank you for visiting. The tree hasn’t started to change yet but very soon. I always look forward to the color, like an old friend coming to visit. Driving around the back of the house to see this sight is very uplifting. The swings are left hanging until the leaves fall and then it is time to put them away until spring.

  2. Beautiful back porch, lovely seasonal red! 🙂
