Weekly Photo Challenge – Half-Light

For this week’s photo challenge we are to share a photograph inspired by a favorite poem, verse, story, or song lyric. Bonus points if you share why the particular text resonates with you. (Though you certainly don’t have to!) If you’re not feeling especially literary or musical this week, see if you can capture the beauty of morning or evening half-light in your corner of the globe.

“Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.”                                                                                                   ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

Pacific Ocean at half-light – the in between light and darkness

Yesterday, Easter Sunday, marked five years since my mother’s death. While walking on the beach, watching the sunset on the Pacific Ocean at half-light, the light shining through the darkness of clouds filled my heart with love. One day we will all leave loved ones behind yet just knowing the sunset brings promise of a new dawn fills me with a sense of hope and peace for the future generations.

Sunset at Mission Bay in San Diego, CA

Sunsets are free and available to all who take the time to enjoy life to its fullest.

My two-year-old grandson, Tanner, began to take notice of the sunset at dinner time and brought it to my daughter’s attention. While visiting them at their home in San Diego I too have always enjoyed the spectacular view from their yard. If I climb the stairs to their rooftop I can get an even better view without the distractions of daily life. I felt blessed to have the opportunity to stand outside with Tanner and his father witnessing the spectacular colors of the setting sun through his innocent eyes.

Living mindfully allows you to pay attention to all the gifts in life without the distraction of television, computers, cell phones and such. They all have a place and time however too much attention to any one thing distracts you from the beauty of nature and all the free blessings that abound. Live life to its fullest in the half-light between life and death.

    • Thank you Mary. It is wonderful to see through the eyes of little ones. Yesterday on the way to the airport he said “bless you trees, bless you sky, bless you excavator, . . .” And it went on while he blessed his family members too. Love spending time with Tanner and being with small children because they help us get back into touch with what is important. Have a beautiful day!
