WPC – Landscape

This week, it’s all about landscape photography. Show us your best establishing shot, out in nature or in an urban setting.

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” ~ Dorothea Lange ~

This quote was very accurate. Looking through the camera lens has opened my eyes and taught me how to actually see when not behind the lens. There are miniature landscapes all around if we just open our eyes.

I love sitting in nature whether in the middle of the woods, from a kayak, or standing on a mountain top. It energizes my soul and reminds me of our smallness, which is why we should pay attention to how our thoughts and actions effect the world around us.

For this week’s challenge I have included a variety of photos. Some from tiny landscapes and others from immense landscapes. The one that sadden me was the landscape of cemetery headstones in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. It isn’t so much the cemetery as the fact that most of these young men and women died while serving their country.

The photos below are from California and upstate New York – a world apart or an all day trip by air.

No matter where I find myself the scenery mesmerizes me. Home I can walk out my door and into the preserve or while traveling for work I can stop along the way to take in the beauty of our dear Mother Earth.

This week’s challenge has allowed me to review photos and remember trips taken with beautiful scenery along the way.

    • Thank you! When we visited Point Loma on Wednesday the cemetery stuck in my mind. Although I had been there several years ago I didn’t remember the number of burials. On the way out my daughter stopped so I could take a photo with the flowers in the forefront and San Diego in the background. Life goes on but sometimes we need to stop and take notice of the sacrifices made by some for the whole of a nation. Having them set in a beautiful location makes it a bit surreal. Love and Light!
