Ambience has the power to uplift your mood. What have you photographed with exceptional ambience?
Ambience – the character and atmosphere of a place.
This week’s challenge made me think of Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center in Craryville, NY. When I pulled into the driveway on December 30th and viewed the main house I felt an immediately welcomed. Walking into the main house to sign in and check out what was going on I was drawn to the library to the right of the entrance. The little white lights decorated the outline of the ceiling and it drew me in to sit and pick up a book.
That evening, after dinner, we walked out to the garden to enjoy the bonfire. Each of us grabbed a piece of wood before walking through the gate. Once at the fire everyone thought of something they were ready to leave behind and something they looked forward to in the new year. Then once the fire was burning we each took a turn to walk around the fire and share our two pieces of wood with the fire. As you can see everyone enjoyed the event as the fire climbed higher and higher into the crisp evening air. After a couple of hours we pulled up some chairs and each sat in their own quiet watching the burning embers.
The atmosphere was of peace, togetherness, sharing, and joy. Every room of the house and out buildings, the meditation hut, and sound of rushing water in the river running nearby added to the overall feeling of being home.
When I arrived home, as I walked into the dining room I noticed the living room was lit by little twinkles of light – like stars decorating the room. The candle holder had been in the same place for a month and never once did I see such a beautiful sight. It was as if my home was greeting me after my weekend away.
There is beauty all around us if we are willing to open our eyes.
Love and Light!
