This week, share a photo that says “against the odds.” Maybe it’s a photo of an unlikely occurrence. Maybe it’s the photo itself that goes against the odds — a shot you never thought you’d get. Maybe it’s a photo of something you’re not sure you’ll be able to do.
“Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.” ~ Arnold Palmer ~
In September 2016 I grabbed my camera and tripod and went to capture photos of the blood moon. There was some light pollution affecting the shot until I found the perfect place. The tripod didn’t want to cooperate and holding the camera still long enough to capture a shot was almost impossible. Yet, as you can see I was able to capture several decent photos of the blood moon along with some stars.
Sometimes we are in the right place at the right time under the right conditions to capture shots that would normally be impossible for an amateur photographer to capture. When the chip was placed in the laptop, the moon shots surprised me.
Along with the moon shots, capturing a dragonfly in flight was another impossible shot. Sitting on the beach with camera in hand, after an hour or so of patiently waiting and watching I was able to capture the dragonfly in flight. Meditating on that warm summer day with dragonflies, butterflies, ducks, and beaver before me was worth the wait.
When the memory card was placed in the laptop I was quite pleased with the result. It looks like the world is rotating around the dragonfly. It was against the odds to actually for this amateur photographer to capture. Feeling grateful for the results.
Another dragonfly photo was truly against the odds because over the decades of enjoying dragonflies, I had never witnessed a dragonfly on a leaf or anywhere else eating. Check out this damselfly eating an insect. This was capture while visiting a friend and walking the trails on her property near the pond.
Have you captured any photos that you felt were against the odds of capturing?

“Sometimes we are in the right place at the right time under the right conditions to capture shots . . .” – lovely! And writers, too, are sometimes in the right place at the right time under the right conditions to capture stories! – It was wonderful hearing how the result of the dragonfly photo made you think the world was revolving around the dragonfly. Thanks!
