Guide to Awakening Your Inner Self – Begin Your Creative Journey Today

WPC – Bridges in Alaska

For this challenge, interpret the theme “bridge.” You can go the same route as I did and capture any type or style of bridge where you are, or go deeper and take a snapshot of something or someone that acts as a bridge in your life: a link, a connection, a mediator.

This week I shall go literal because like trees, I also love taking photos of bridges. When given the opportunity to capture trees and bridges together, that is a special treat.

Until you cross the bridge of your insecurities, you can’t begin to explore your possibilities. ~ Tim Fargo ~

Walking this suspension bridge was a little scary at first. Two of the women were apprehensive so I put on my empowerment cloak to guide them through their fear while releasing my own. Then the guide decided to add to their worries by hanging off the side of the rail to the right making it every more challenging to reach the other side. Once across the women cheered and patted each other on the back for taking the steps needed to overcome and reach the next platform with a higher and longer zip line.

Another bridge to cross was while riding the Skagway Alaska White Pass and Yukon Rail Tour. When we boarded I never realized that we would be so close to the edge of the mountain or riding along tracks or would climb nearly three thousand feet in just 20 miles. After a while I built up the nerve to stand on the platform at the back of the train. At first I held on for dear life as it felt like an earthquake under foot. There were a few men standing out there with me taking photos along the way. Eventually I moved closer to the rail and balanced so I too could capture the moment. It was amazing as we could look below to the river and waterfalls. When I noticed the tunnel ahead I went back in to watch the engine and cars  disappear into the tunnel.

Although the photos are not my best the trip was amazing – crossing bridges, seeing the original remains of the Klondike Trail built-in 1898, water falls, tunnels, gorges and spectacular views of Alaska. What an amazing state!
