What Will You Focus on Today?

Will you start today with a new mindset and change your life? Yesterday is gone, you can’t change what you said, did, thought . . . Don’t waste the day in yesterday, move forward from this day. Some actions you can take:

  • Write in your gratitude journal everything you are grateful for in this moment. Some things to be grateful for:
    • Family – love, connections, compassion
    • A good friend – or many
    • A job that provides necessities and security
    • A warm bed – pillows, warm blanket
    • Sitting in the Sunshine – feeling the warmth dancing along your face
    • Walking in the Rain, listening to the rain drops dapping on the roof
    • Healthy food choices – vegetables and fruits – enjoying the colors, textures, patterns, taste, feel
    • Water – potable drinking water, streams, swamps, rivers, lakes, oceans
    • A roof over your head – a place to cool or warm your body
    • Breathe – pay attention to the slow in and out breath
    • Nature – the gifts of food, all the variety of trees and the gifts they provide, vegetation, dirt, rocks, color, scents, textures, various size of each gift of nature
    • The way shadows and light play on the floor and walls around you
    • Children sharing flowers
    • Dew decorating leaves and flowers
    • Those creative moments when you bring items to life in a new way
    • The delightful sounds of birds singing, tinkle of wind chimes, rustling of leaves
    • And so much more

Here are a few things that bring me joy throughout the day, week, month, year.

Nature is ever changing just as our lives and what a beautiful way to embrace life by just enjoying the simple pleasures. Over the past year I have been incorporating nature into crafts whether using a sticks and seashells along with beads to create wind chimes, taking nature photos, using found sea glass and small stones to create jewelry, essential oils to create emotion roller balls, it has brought me closer to where I want to be in life. Living in a state of simple pleasure, being grateful for all experiences – those we label as good or bad, happy or sad . . . Each brings with it a learning lesson.

During times when we find ourselves out of vibration with where we were intending to be are the best times to focus on gratitude. Gratitude for the life lesson which confirms we are not moving in the direction of choice. Life happens – illnesses arise in ourselves or others, death occurs, jobs and relationships may end – however it is during those times that we can be thankful for the experiences, for the pleasure of knowing those who are no longer with us and the lessons learned from having them in our lives. Once we overcome the low vibration we can set out vision on the higher vibration by giving gratitude for simple pleasures and remain focused on those. Before you know it, new adventures present themselves, new people come into our lives, new life events to be grateful for and we are back on the path leading to where we rather be. Remember, not everyday may be filled with high vibration – someone may cut you off, you may spill coffee on your work clothing, you may be exhausted from a night of crying baby – however, it is your reaction to those events that will influence your day and what you remember of the day. Where you place your focus will determine the overall outcome so why not focus on all the blessings of the day and let the other flow off you like eggs on a Teflon pan.

So the question is, what will you focus on today? If you would like to share please leave a comment or complete the contact form below.

WPC – Order

This week, share your take on order, whether literal, figurative, or anything in between (and sure — showing it next to a healthy dose of messiness is fine, too). From library stacks to sock drawers and from ancient temples to modern train stations, let your inner disciplinarian take over.

Cleanliness and order are not matters of instinct; they are matters of education, and like most great things, you must cultivate a taste for them. ~ Benjamin Disraeli ~

Order can be found anywhere whether in store shelves, gardens, or homes. Chaos can be found in the same places. Chaos can also become orderly and some people live in organized chaos. This week I have chosen three different locations which order can be found.

While visiting my daughter in San Diego we stopped to browse in a salvage store. Everything was neatly organized and orderly for a customers easy view. It was fun checking out all of the items from earlier days, reminders of some deceased relatives homes that I visited as a child.

And, where is there more order than in a garden. If the garden is not planted by a certain time of year depending on your location you will not be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center in Craryville, NY has a very large garden and thankfully many volunteers. It was interesting to witness the order in which each row was set up and timing of planting each of the vegetables. When I’ve had gardens in the past, we started out with a plan and some kind of order in the planting however none of my past gardens were as beautiful or well organized as this one. They rotate location of crops yearly and do all possible to keep weeds at a minimum. This is one beautiful organic garden. Can’t wait to see the fruits of our labor.

There is a limit to the amount of misery and disarray you will put up with, for love, just as there is a limit to the amount of mess you can stand around a house. You can’t know the limit beforehand, but you will know when you’ve reached it. I believe this. ~ Alice Munro ~

Alice Munro said it perfectly, sometimes we don’t know until we are in the midst of it. I never realized how much I love order in my home until the time when it wasn’t present. I have read books on how to maintain home as sanctuary in my quest to find peace. Removing anything that doesn’t bring peace, love, and security is an ongoing process.

When there are less material items and only those that speak to my heart my home feels like a sanctuary, a place to feel peaceful and secure. A place to laugh easily, to be silly, meditate and enjoy a cup of tea in the sun shining through the window.

For myself, I love making the bed first thing when I rise, washing morning dishes and cleaning the counter prior to leaving the house. When returning home it is a gift to myself and anyone who visits to walk into a kitchen with clean counters.

What are your feelings on order? Do you function in a cluttered environment, an organized clutter environment, or in an organized decluttered environment?

Balance – Look Inside

Today, let’s think about what we can do to make this world a better place. No divides, no hatred, no angry thoughts. For today, lets spread peace on our earth and send loving thoughts to everyone. If you have been watching the news and becoming victim of the divide that is playing out, please stop for one day and think about your friends of various skin color, religious beliefs, educational levels, socioeconomic status and such. We love one another and came into each others life sharing our thoughts, beliefs and lives by connecting at a deeper level. Then think about the number of loving people the media ignores who are working to make this world a better place for all. Those people, maybe even yourself, who donate their time and money for a cause where they have no idea who is receiving the gifts. Think of the emergency room technicians, nurses, doctors who are saving lives, bringing babies into the world and sitting with those who are taking their last breath.

The main cause of our problems is the Ego and thinking someone has more than us, that we are not getting our fair share. It saddens my heart to watch video clips of angry, hateful people trying to divide this beautiful country we live in. If you do not have an education – whose fault is it? The school opens the door – it is up to you to learn. It takes time, effort and hard work. Say all you want about the education system – I know some successful young former foster children who grew up under deplorable conditions yet they are successful college graduates going out into the world with one goal – to help others and change the life of children.

Pay attention to your thoughts and words. They have an impact much larger than you realize. Fill your hearts with love and take steps to improve the life of others just as if they were your own children. In turn, your life will be greatly improved.

Love to all!!

Letting Go of Labels

This is not going to be my normal post but sitting silent is not an option today.

It seems the media focuses on what is not working in our country and the world. They lump people together by their gender, race, ethnicity, history, community and on and on. People are people.

We all have a heart to feel with and mind to think with. We all share the air we breath – we can’t live without it. We all share the earth’s water – we can’t live without it. We all share the land – we can’t live without it. We all share the trees – they provide life as well. We all have blood flowing through our veins, skin covering our organs and protecting them from the elements. We are all blessed with the same ability to reach higher vibrations if we focus on what we want instead of letting labels get in the way. I read this quote this morning and felt it appropriate for the day.

“Taking the line of least resistance, we lump the most different people together under the same heading. Taking the line of least resistance, we ascribe to them collective crimes, collective acts and opinions. “The Serbs have massacred…”, “The English have devastated…”, “The Jews have confiscated…”, “The Blacks have torched”, “The Arabs refuse…”. We blithely express sweeping judgments on whole peoples, calling them “hardworking” and “ingenious”, or “lazy”, “touchy”, “sly”, “proud”, or “obstinate”. And sometimes this ends in bloodshed.”

– Amin Maalouf “On Identity”

Today, stop and take some time to think about your thoughts on different people based on the color of their skin, their income, the type of home they live in, where they are originally from (south, north, east, west, another country . . .). Today, stop and take some time to think about the whole person not their label white, black, police, CEO, politician, socialist, Christian, Muslim, Jew, employed, unemployed, or any other label that has been placed upon them. Today, think about your thoughts on the elderly, children, youth, middle age, young adult and ponder for a moment about the thoughts that come to you while thinking of all these labels.

We all have prejudices – it is a part of us but where did it come from? Our parents, grandparents, community, media, school system, coworkers, history books. It wasn’t until I went to college that my eyes opened wide at learning of the lies told in the history books during my elementary and high school days. Dig deep within you and find that place of prejudice and question all of those beliefs. Take some time each day to dig a little deeper within. You will be amazed at how you will change the way you look at the world. Ignore the media or if you must read what they are feeding you try several so you can have a wide view and make your own decision on what you feel is the truth.

Our beautiful planet covered in light!

Our beautiful planet covered in light!

This is a beautiful world and we all have been blessed with the gift of love if we choose. What can you do today to show love for everyone sharing this small planet with you? I am bringing in the energy of light into my body and spreading it out to the world. If we could all do the same for a few minutes everyday just imagine the love we would see in the world around us.
