Favorite Place – WPC

What’s your favorite place, near or far? Share an image in a new post!

Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. ~ John Muir ~

This weekend I was fortunate to visit one of my favorite places, Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center, where I volunteered to help out in the kitchen and share in Karma Yoga (the discipline of selfless action without being attached to the outcome – being in Union with God.) This is the place that I go to for healing, to strengthen my body and soul.

When not helping out in the kitchen I had the opportunity to wander through the woods on my snowshoes. This was the first time this year that I had the opportunity to use them.

Let me take you on a little tour and you can check out Pumpkin Hollows website: http://www.pumpkinhollow.org

Living simply and in tune with nature’s rhythm is my favorite place to be. Add in some wonderful people living in a healing community and it all makes life a little more pleasant. This morning’s meditation was very powerful and a great start to the day. On the way to meditation there was a fine snow falling and it was a beautiful site from the windows. At the end of the meditation the snow and stopped and the sun came out to say hello.

The meals are vegetarian and always delicious. If you have a group that would like to visit give them a call. If you would like to get away on your own, give them a call. Remember, this is not a resort where you will be waited on, all who visit give willingly and share in activities. Love gardening, they are always looking for volunteers to help out in the garden. Do you like carpentry, plumbing, cleaning? Give them a call. If you would like to walk through the woods to the labyrinth, sitting by the waterfall, exploring nature in between helping out and/or participating in group learning sessions then this is the place for you. All who come return as this will become your second home just as it is for all those who have visited before you. Day visitors are welcome to explore, just check in at the desk to sign in before taking a walk.

If you are interested in learning more about Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center and the history of this wonderful location please check out their website. All are welcome.

Creating a Meditation Space

Create you meditation space.jpg

Creating a space in your home to meditate is the first step in shifting the atmosphere. When people come to your home to visit they will feel the peace in your home as they walk in the door, even if you peaceful space is hidden in your bedroom.

It can be a shared space with others in your home or they can have their own space. It doesn’t need to be a large space, just a small space in a bedroom or shared space in a living area. As long as it is easily accessible. Having this space readily available allows everyone to release and slow down on hectic days, allowing them to shift their energy. Teaching our children how to meditate early in life can transform their future. It will affect the way they interact with others, being able to focus on their studies, open up their creativity, and succeed in school and life. This is a wonderful gift they will carry with them into their adulthood.

I love this quote:

“Please be aware of the energy you bring into this space.”                                                                ~ Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor ~

If you are aware of the energy you bring into the room, you have a better chance of maintaining a peaceful environment wherever you go. We would share this quote with participants in our trainings because someone walking in with negative energy affects the entire room and learning environment. Have you ever walked into a room where the atmosphere felt heavy? Maybe you knew someone had just been quarreling yet no one would share what happened. Sometimes parents don’t realize their children know the relationship is tenuous because they don’t argue in front of them. From my experience working with children in Child Welfare, they know – at all ages. They may be in their bedroom sleeping while you argue however they can feel the tension in the air.

If you make meditation a habit you will have the ability to transform that energy with a calming presence. Maintaining a daily meditation practice will help you learn to communicate in a more peaceful manner. This is so because you will be more aware of what feels good and you will want to maintain that feeling. Anger and stress will no longer have a place in your life. When you begin to feel anger or stress, you will immediately know that it is time to remove yourself and take a breather. This is not only beneficial for relationships, it is beneficial for health.

Wishing you a peaceful existence.

Slow Down and Enjoy the Beauty in Nature

Finding beauty in nature lying in the glider in the backyard.

Finding beauty in nature lying in the glider in the backyard.

Although I don’t like carrying my cell, when I am out in nature I use it for those magic moments like the one above. Silencing the cell phone is a must because I don’t want to be pulled into some else’s drama while in my peaceful place. There is nothing so important that it must be addressed during that time period. Long ago I made a decision that no matter what is going on in life I will allow myself to become mindful and remain in the moment when outside.

We each have the ability to make our lives beautiful and worth living. Learning to slow down, take time for yourself, and stay in the moment is a step toward living mindfully. Take back control of your life and find art in nature. It is only by slowing down that you learn to truly enjoy this the world around you.

Can you take one small step today to create the life of your dreams?

Love and Light,

Sandy
