WPC – Shadows

You can completely change an image with a shadow. Whether you’re taking a selfie silhouette on the ground, capturing the lines and patterns on the walls while walking your city’s streets, or recording the subtle ways the light hits your subject’s face as she sits next to a window, these different types of shadows you see can add a complex, unexpected layer to your shot.

Once again, this week’s challenge – Shadows – is another favorite. The way the shadows decorate the walls, floors, furniture, and in nature always amazes me. It is like natures art on display for all to see if they only open their eyes.

“Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides.” ~ Junichiro Tanizaki ~

“There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.” Charles Dickens

“All the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow.” ~ Leo Tolstoy ~

“I have come to believe that there are infinite passageways out of the shadows, infinite vehicles to transport us into the light.” ~ Martha Beck ~

“What difference is there, do you think, between those in Plato’s cave who can only marvel at the shadows and images of various objects, provided they are content and don’t know what they miss, and the philosopher who has emerged from the cave and sees the real things?” ~ Desiderius Erasmus ~

“A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.” ~ Francis of Assisi ~

“There’s something about shadows because you make your own mind up about what’s lurking in them.” ~ Richard O’Brien ~

“To confront a person with his shadow is to show him his own light.” ~ Carl Jung ~

“The shadow is the greatest teacher for how to come to the light.” ~ Ram Dass ~

“Both light and shadow are the dance of love.” ~ Rumi ~

The best part of life coaching is guiding people from their shadow of self-doubt into the light of their true self. Knowing our shadow exists and facing it head on allows you to release the fear that holds you back from a whole world of possibilities. May you face your own shadows and turn toward the light to find your way to living on purpose.
